Locally Owned Businesses in Breckenridge, Colorado

Breckenridge, Colorado is known for many positive things: some of the best skiing in the state, the best restaurants around, and more. However, everyone in Breck takes pride in our sense of community. And the simple fact of the matter is, Breckenridge wouldn’t be what it is without the vibrant mix of locally owned businesses, each of which brings value to our area.

At Breckenridge Organic Therapy, we’re so grateful to be one of our mountain town’s well-recognized Breckenridge small businesses. But we’re also big believers in supporting our fellow locally owned businesses in Breckenridge. Check out a few of our favorite small businesses below.

1. Highest Elevation Bookstore

Reviewers say the Highest Elevation Bookstore (aka Old Man Berkin’s Bookstore) downtown is a true gem in a world where large superstores like B&N have taken over. This bookstore is an absolute treasure trove for anyone who loves the nostalgia of old bookstores. Used books of all genres line the shelves, and you never know what you may find.

2. Joy of Sox

Visitors often rave about the many eclectic and unique little stores and shops found sprinkled around downtown, and Joy of Sox is always a favorite. This little store has one of the most interesting collections of fun slippers and socks, from fuzzy toe huggers to keep those little piggies warm to graphic character socks that deliver a giggle. Joy of Sox is owned and operated by Anne Evans, who has sold socks in downtown Breck for over three decades.

3. Broken Compas Brewing Company

The Broken Compass Brewing Company was opened almost a decade ago by Jo and Jason Ford—two fine folks with a passion for community and good brews. Broken Compass now has two breweries/taphouses in Breck; one on South Main and another on Continental Court. In either place, good cheers abound, good beer is plentiful, and there’s always some kind of fun event taking place to get people connected.

4. Downstairs at Eric’s on South Main

Another hot spot on South Main, Downstairs at Eric’s is a family sports bar and combined arcade that’s been around since 1989. You can stop in here on any day of the week, have a beer on tap, catch a game on one of the flat screens, or strike up a conversation with one of the locals. This family-friendly place also has the best “Garbage Pizza,” and there’s a cool arcade to keep kids entertained.

5. Portfolio Art Gallery

The Portfolio Art Gallery is located right in downtown Breck, and it’s one of the best places to get acquainted with some of the area’s local artists. Portfolio supports artists who live and thrive in Breck, and they always have something amazing to check out on display. If you stop in looking for an original piece from one of the artists, the gallery will even frame your piece and get it ready in no time at all.
