Due to the availability of skiing, alpine coasters, and other mountainside adventures, Breckenridge is often thought of as a winter playground for those who love the snow. However, there is one other reason to visit Breckenridge, and you may not even have to wait for the cold weather: ice skating. Breckenridge ice skating has grown to be a winter tradition for a lot of people. So, where do you go to enjoy ice skating in Breckenridge? We’ve pulled together all the details below.

Where Can You Go Ice Skating in Breckenridge?

When it comes to Breckenridge ice skating, the area is lucky enough to be home to two awesome rinks and indoor and outdoor skating opportunities. Check them out below.

Grand Colorado on Peak 8

Just a short walk from the notorious Peak 8 you’ll find the perfect family-friendly, outdoor skating rink at Grand Colorado on Peak 8. The area is naturally surrounded by magnificent winter views with mountain vistas in full site. However, at this skating rink, you can also head to the on-site cafĂ© for a hot drink and a warm-up beside the fire. Helmets and ice skates are available for rent, and the price of admission ($18 for adults and $15 for kids under 12). If you bring your own skates, though, admission is only $10. The rink opens at the end of November for those anxious to get in some skating time.

Stephen C. West Ice Arena

The Stephen C. West Ice Arena offers both indoor and outdoor ice skating in Breckenridge. The indoor ice arena is open year-round, while the outdoor rink opens when temperatures permit. Plus, you can enjoy special skating sessions at certain times, such as Disco Skating on Friday nights which involves skating beneath disco lights and fun games throughout the evening. Admission rates are $12 for adults, $9.50 for those 17 and under, and seniors. Skates are available for rent for just $6.

If the skating rinks in Breck are a little too packed, or you’re looking for something a bit different, be sure to check out some of the rinks sprinkled around Summit County.

Dercum Square

Dercum Square sits at the center of River Run Village in Keystone. This man made ice skating rink is a local favorite because it is actually admission-free. You only have to pay to rent skates if you don’t have your own. The rink is open for use seven days a week, and you can ice skate day or night. Naturally, this outdoor rink is only open once the weather permits. However, once it does open, a concession stand is also nearby where skaters can grab refreshments.

Keystone Lake Ice Rink

Keystone Lake at the Keystone Adventure Center provides one of the largest outdoor ice-skating rinks in the winter. The rink usually opens the first week of December, and it is Zamboni-maintained. The rink covers a massive five acres, so there’s ample room to roam. You can rent everything from ice skates and training assistants to pull sleds for the kids. Admission is $15 for adults, $10 for youth (5 to 17), $5 for kids 4 and under.
