Where to Find Breckenridge Snow Sculptures

Each January, Breckenridge hosts one of the world’s largest winter art events—the International Snow Sculpture Championship, which brings teams from around the globe to create massive, detailed works of art made entirely from snow.

The sculptures are displayed throughout downtown Breckenridge, centered around the Riverwalk Center on West Adams Avenue. This year’s championship runs from January 19 through January 28, giving visitors plenty of time to explore the finished pieces at their own pace.

During the competition, each team is tasked with carving a 20-ton block of snow using only hand-powered tools. Over a five-day carving period, sculptors work long hours — often day and night — to bring their icy visions to life. At the end of the event, one sculpture is selected as the winner, earning its creators bragging rights and international recognition.
