Located in the heart of the scenic Rocky Mountains of Colorado, Breckenridge boasts world-class ski resorts and the state’s largest historic district. It is a quaint mining town filled with Old West charm and history. From skiing to shopping to hiking, there are plenty of options for fun if you are looking for things to do in Breckenridge, known by the locals as “Breck.”

1. Walk on Main Street

Breckenridge’s main street remains almost as it was a hundred years ago, with many of the same authentic buildings that will give visitors a sense of what the Wild West mining rush was like.

2. Visit Breckenridge Ski Resort

Breckenridge Ski Resort, one of the country’s most popular, is an alpine ski resort just west of the Continental Divide.

The resort features a ski park that spreads across five peaks in the southern Tenmile Range, accessible by 31 lifts. The resort caters to beginners and experts, with options for both skiers and snowboarders.

3. Bike Boreas Pass

This high mountain pass in the Rocky Mountains is more than 11,000 feet above sea level. This was the path prospectors used during Colorado’s gold rush when they wanted to cross into the area.

It was also used by horse-drawn wagons traveling through the West. Today, it serves as one of the country’s most scenic bike paths, most popular among mountain bike enthusiasts.

4. Hike McCullough Gulch Trail

If mountain biking is not your thing, try some hiking along McCullough Gulch Trail, a 2.9-mile path near Blue River, CO. The trail includes a lake and is considered moderately difficult at a 951 foot elevation.

You can bring your pet with you if so inclined. This is a multi-use trail, best visited during the spring and summer months. Some Nordic skiers and snowshoers use the trail in the winter.

5. Visit Peak 8 Fun Park

There is a little something for everyone at the Peak 8 Fun Park, a popular summer destination on Peak 8 that must be accessed using a gondola ride. The breathtaking view up to the peak is just the start.

Other activities available include the Breckenridge Gold Runner Coaster, three alpine slide courses, a climbing wall and a bungee trampoline. You also can check out the state’s largest human maze, located in the park, in addition to the Kids Zip Line and Ropes Course.
